"I am drawn to the pure energy of sunlight, especially as it manifests in the dynamic interplay of light and shadow. Watercolor, with its fluidity, luminosity and transparency, affords me the truest expression of my personal vision."
Deborah Ponder was formally trained in fine art and design, including graduate studies in painting and art history in Florence, Italy. Along with her work as a painter, she has been an award-winning graphic designer and taught principles of visual communication at the college level.
Deborah works in watercolor and oil, with watercolor dominating her portfolio. She is a Signature Member of the Baltimore Watercolor Society and the North East Watercolor Society. She holds Associate Membership in the National Watercolor Society and the American Watercolor Society.
The artist approaches her paintings as a form of storytelling, describing them as "narrative vignettes set in places and moments touched by the people who inhabit them." Her paintings are known for bold composition, saturated pigment, and dramatic light.
Work by Deborah Ponder is in private collections across the country and can be seen in international, national, regional and local exhibitions.
